The Ant and the Grasshopper

Written by:

Once upon a time, in a lush green forest, there lived a group of hardworking ants. During one hot summer’s day, while they were busily collecting food for the upcoming winter, they noticed a carefree grasshopper. He was dancing and singing, enjoying the beautiful weather without a worry in the world.

“Ants, you are so silly. You need to enjoy the sunshine,” chuckled the grasshopper, listening to music on his iPod.

The ants, though feeling the heat, kept working diligently. “We want to have food for the winter,” they replied, focusing on their task.

As the days passed, summer turned to autumn, and then winter arrived, bringing cold weather and snow. The grasshopper, now cold and hungry, realized he had made no preparations for the winter. In desperation, he approached various animals in the forest for help.

First, he asked the owls for food, but they refused, flying around him with a stern “Twit Tuhooo! We will not feed you.” Then he turned to the bears, who were angry at being woken up from their slumber, and they growled, “Growl! Growl! We will not feed you.” Finally, the squirrels, too, denied his request for food.

Feeling hopeless, the grasshopper thought of the ants he had seen working in the summer. Approaching them, he begged, “Ants! Ants! Please feed me.”

The ants, who had plenty of food stored, gathered to discuss what to do. After some deliberation, they decided to help the grasshopper but with one condition. “You must promise that next year you will work hard in the summer,” they said.

Grateful and humbled, the grasshopper promised, “Oh thank you, Ants, I promise.”

True to his word, the grasshopper worked hard the following summer, helping the ants collect food. He learned an important lesson: “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” And from then on, he never took the summer days for granted again, working diligently to prepare for the winter months.

This story teaches the importance of preparation and the value of hard work, showing that even the most carefree among us can learn to be responsible.
