The Dog and his Reflection

In a big, green farmyard, there lived a very greedy dog. He was always hungry and loved to eat all day long. One day, he saw the cat enjoying a saucer of milk. Sneakily, the dog drank all the milk when the cat wasn’t looking. “Where has my milk gone?” the cat wondered. The dog just shrugged and pretended he didn’t know, even though he had milk all over his mouth!

Next, the dog saw a mouse with a nice piece of cheese. Quickly, he gobbled up the cheese before the mouse could eat it. “Where is my cheese?” the mouse asked. Again, the dog shrugged and acted innocent, even with cheese crumbs around his mouth.

Then, the cow came with some freshly cut straw. The dog couldn’t resist and ate all the straw too. “Where has my straw gone?” the cow asked. The dog just shrugged, straw sticking out of his mouth.

Lastly, the horse was looking forward to eating some hay. But guess what? The dog ate that too! “Where has my hay gone?” the horse asked. The dog shrugged, hay bits hanging from his mouth.

All the animals were upset. “What are we going to do about Dog? He keeps eating our food,” they worried.

One sunny day, the dog went for a walk and saw a juicy bone in the neighbour’s garden. It was meant for the neighbour’s dog. But the greedy dog thought, “I’ll take that bone and have it later.”

He sneaked into the garden, took the bone, and ran away. “Extra food for me tonight,” he thought.

On his way back, he had to cross a small river. As he looked down into the water, he saw his reflection. But he thought it was another dog with an even bigger bone! “I’ll just take that bone too,” he decided.

But as he opened his mouth to grab the other dog’s bone, his own bone fell into the river and floated away. The dog was surprised and realized it was just his reflection. “Oh dear, that’s not another dog, it’s just me,” he sighed.

That night, all the other animals ate their food happily. The cow, wise and kind, said to the dog, “I hope you learned your lesson. It doesn’t pay to be greedy. You might lose the good things you already have.”

The dog nodded, feeling sorry. “I’ll never be greedy again,” he promised. And from that day on, he was much more careful about being greedy and learned to share with his friends.
