The Fox who Lost his Tail

Written by:

Once upon a time in a sunny forest, there was a cheerful fox who loved to stroll among the trees. He enjoyed the warm sunshine and the soft breeze on his fur.

But this day was different. Two hunters were in the forest too, setting up traps. They hoped to catch something for their dinner. “This looks like a good spot,” one hunter said, setting a trap.

The fox, unaware of the danger, walked right into the trap. “Oh no, I’m stuck!” he cried. He wiggled and wriggled until, with a final pull, he broke free. But, oh dear, his beautiful bushy tail was left behind in the trap!

Feeling sad, the fox began to cry. Just then, a friendly rabbit hopped by. “Why are you crying?” asked the rabbit. The fox showed his missing tail and shared his worries about the other foxes laughing at him. The clever rabbit had an idea. “Tell the other foxes that you’re happy without your tail and that it’s much better this way!”

The next day, the fox called all his fox friends for a meeting. “Roll up, roll up, I have important news!” he announced proudly. The other foxes were surprised to see him without a tail. “I’m here to tell you that we don’t need our tails!” said the tailless fox. “Without them, dogs can’t catch us, and they won’t get in the way when we sit down.”

The foxes nodded, thinking it made sense. But then, the wise old fox asked, “If you hadn’t lost your tail, would you be telling us to cut ours off?” The tailless fox hung his head, realizing he wouldn’t.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, he decided to leave the forest to find a new adventure. The other foxes learned that it’s okay to be different and that you don’t need to change just because someone else says so.

And so, the story of the tailless fox became a forest legend, teaching everyone that it’s important to be happy with who you are, tail or no tail.
