Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a curious young boy. One sunny afternoon, while exploring the forest, he found a large jar filled with delicious filberts (hazelnuts).
“Wow, so many filberts! I must have them all!” the boy exclaimed, his eyes wide with excitement.
He quickly thrust his hand into the jar, trying to grab as many filberts as he could. But when he tried to pull his hand out, it was stuck! The boy tugged and pulled, but his fist, full of filberts, wouldn’t fit through the jar’s opening.
A friendly Squirrel, who had been watching from a nearby tree, scampered down and said, “Boy, your eyes are bigger than your stomach! Take only what you need.”
But the boy was stubborn. “I want them all, and I want them now!” he insisted.
The boy’s mother heard the commotion and came over. “My dear, why is your hand stuck in the jar?” she asked gently.
“I can’t get my hand out,” the boy replied, frustrated.
A wise Deer approached and said calmly, “Maybe you’re holding too much?”
Then, a waddling Badger added, “Greed often leads to unexpected problems.”
An Owl, perched gracefully on a branch, nodded. “Indeed, Badger. Too much of anything is never a good idea.”
The boy thought for a moment and then nodded. He released some of the filberts, letting go of his greedy grip. His hand easily slipped out of the jar.
“I understand now. I was too greedy,” the boy admitted.
A Rabbit hopped over and said, “Greed only fills your hand with more than it can hold.”
The Wind swirled around the boy and whispered, “And sometimes, the hand that lets go is the hand that gathers.”
The wise Elder Tree rustled its leaves and said, “A wise lesson learned, young one.”
And so, the boy learned an important lesson about greed and the value of taking only what he needed. He shared the filberts with his forest friends, and they all enjoyed them together.
From that day on, the boy remembered the lesson his friends had taught him and was careful to never be too greedy again.
The End
And the forest friends always reminded each other, “Remember, everyone, it’s wiser to take only what you need.”
