The Fox and the Grapes

Written by:

Once upon a time, in a bright and sunny forest, there was a tired little fox. He was very hot and very hungry. As he walked through the trees, he started to feel too tired to walk any more. So, he decided to sit down and rest under a big shady tree.

Just then, he saw something wonderful. High up in the tree, there were some grapes. They looked big, round, and very juicy. “Oh, those grapes look so yummy,” thought the fox. “If I eat them, I won’t be thirsty anymore!”

The grapes seemed to whisper to the fox, “We are very juicy. If you jump high, you can reach us and eat us!”

The little fox tried to jump and reach the grapes. He jumped once, twice, many times, but he just couldn’t reach them. “Jump higher,” the grapes seemed to say.

“I’m trying my best,” said the fox, jumping as high as he could. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t touch the grapes.

After trying a lot, the little fox felt very tired. He stopped jumping and sat down. He looked up at the grapes and said, “I don’t think those grapes are yummy. They are probably sour anyway. I don’t want them anymore.”

So, the fox walked away and decided to look for something else to eat.

This story teaches us that sometimes, when we can’t get what we want, we might say that we didn’t want it anyway. But it’s okay if we can’t reach everything – there are always other good things to find!
