The Frog and Two Fish

Written by:

In a sparkling lake surrounded by lush trees, two playful fish swam and jumped, enjoying their watery world. They were the best of friends with a cheerful frog who lived nearby. Every day, they splashed and played at the lake’s far end, sharing laughter and stories.

One sunny day, while they were playing, two fishermen strolled by. The frog, with a worried look, warned his friends. “Look, fish, those are fishermen. They’ve found our lake and they’ll catch us all!”

“Why would they catch us?” asked Fish 1, puzzled.

“They will feed us to their people,” explained the frog, fear in his voice.

The fishermen, unaware of the worried creatures, planned to return in the morning with their nets.

“We must call a meeting with all the lake creatures,” declared the frog.

Soon, crabs of all sizes gathered around, curious about the commotion. “What’s happening?” asked Crab 1, basking in the sun.

“The fishermen are coming back with nets,” said the frog. “We must find a safer place.”

“But this is our home,” protested Crab 4.

“Why not ask the wise old fish?” suggested Crab 5. “He always knows what to do.”

The wise old fish, calm and collected, reassured everyone. “Do not worry. Dreams of snakes and evil men do not come true. We are safe here.”

Some agreed to stay, trusting the wise old fish’s words. But the frog, fearing for his safety, decided to leave. “I cannot stay. Please, come with me,” he pleaded.

Fish 1 and Fish 2, along with the others, chose to stay, believing in the wisdom of the old fish. “The lake is our home,” they said.

The frog, saddened but resolute, packed his belongings. Along with his wife, he left the lake in search of a safer place.

The next morning, as feared, the fishermen returned. They cast their nets, capturing the crabs, the two fish, and even the wise old fish.

“We’ll have a delicious seafood pie tonight,” exclaimed one fisherman.

“We should have listened to the frog,” lamented Fish 1.

“Why didn’t we trust him more?” regretted Fish 2, as they were taken away.

Meanwhile, the frog, witnessing the scene from a distance, felt a pang of sorrow. “Why didn’t they listen to me?” he wondered.

His wife comforted him. “We all make choices, and sometimes we must bear the consequences. We are safe because we chose to leave.”

And so, in the quiet of their new home, the frog and his wife reflected on the day’s events, grateful for their safety but saddened by the fate of their friends. The story of the frog, the fish, and the fishermen teaches us that sometimes, at the first hint of danger, it is wise to save ourselves.
