The following is a story based on “The Sing Song of Old Man Kangaroo” by Rudyard Kipling.
Once upon a sunny day in Australia, there was a little kangaroo who wasn’t like today’s kangaroos at all. He had short legs and a woolly coat, and he loved to dance on a rock, wishing someone would notice him. “I wish I was special,” he sighed.
So, he decided to ask for help. First, he hopped to Nga, the little god, but Nga was too sleepy. “I’m busy sleeping,” Nga yawned. Then, he skipped to Nguing, the middle god, who was too busy working. “No time for nonsense,” Nguing said. Finally, he jumped to Ngong, the big god, and asked, “Can you make me a wonderful runner and different from all others?”
Ngong thought for a moment and then called out, “Dingo! See that kangaroo? He wants to be chased to become special. Go make it happen!”
Dingo, with a mischievous grin, agreed. “That cat-rabbit?” he laughed, pointing at the kangaroo.
And so, the chase began. The kangaroo ran faster than he ever had, hopping over mountains, through fields, and across rivers. With Dingo always just a tail’s length behind, the kangaroo’s legs grew longer and stronger with every leap.
After a long chase, Ngong called out, “Time’s up!” The kangaroo stopped, panting but proud. His legs were now long and powerful, perfect for hopping far and wide.
“Thank you, Dingo,” the kangaroo said, grateful for the unexpected journey that made him special.
Ngong smiled. “You wanted to be different, Kangaroo, and now you are. But remember, it’s our adventures and efforts that make us who we are.”
From that day on, the kangaroo hopped with pride, not just because of his long legs, but because he had learned what it means to be truly unique.
And as for Dingo and Kangaroo, they became good friends, often seen racing and playing, reminding everyone that even the most unlikely friendships can lead to wonderful new beginnings.
In the heart of Australia, the kangaroo no longer danced alone on his rock. He danced a dance of joy, of discovery, and of the magic that comes from believing in yourself and embracing the adventures life throws your way.
