The Selfish Giant

Written by:

Once upon a time, in a land filled with laughter and joy, there lived a giant known to all as the Selfish Giant because he would not share his beautiful garden. The garden was a magical place, with soft green grass, stunning flowers, and twelve peach trees that blossomed beautifully. But the Selfish Giant built a high wall to keep children out, declaring, “My own garden is my own garden!”

After visiting his friend, the Cornish Ogre, for seven years, the Giant returned to find his garden overtaken by eternal winter, as no children played there and no spring came. He missed the warmth and laughter of the children but didn’t understand that it was his own selfishness that kept the seasons at bay.

One day, the Giant discovered children had found a way back into the garden through a small hole in the wall. Instead of chasing them away, he was moved by the sight of one particular child struggling to climb a tree. The Giant helped the child and realized his selfishness had caused his loneliness and the garden’s perpetual winter.

Deciding to tear down the wall and share his garden with everyone, the Giant was finally happy. Spring returned to the garden with such beauty and warmth. The children played, and the Giant laughed, his heart filled with joy. He played with the children every day, but he always remembered the one child who changed his heart.

Years passed, and the Giant grew very old. One winter morning, he found the same child he had helped before, standing under a tree. The child invited the Giant to his eternal garden, Paradise. As the Giant lay down for the last time, the children gathered around, mourning their friend who had learned to love and share.

The Selfish Giant’s garden became a place of endless joy and laughter, a paradise for all the children in the town, forever reminding everyone of the Giant who learned to share.
