The Final Days of the Buddha

In a time long ago, under skies filled with endless stars, the Buddha shared his wisdom about love, happiness, and peace with anyone who wished to listen. He was a kind teacher who had journeyed far and wide, spreading messages of kindness and understanding.

One day, the Buddha, who was now eighty years old, gathered his four close followers. He shared with them a very important lesson. “I have spent my life spreading knowledge and teaching how to live with peace in your heart. Now, I must teach one last lesson — how to leave this world without fear,” he said with a gentle smile.

“Come, my friends, we must travel to Kushinga, the city where I spent my childhood. It is there I wish to spend my final days,” the Buddha told them.

His followers, surprised and saddened by his words, protested. “But, Buddha, you cannot leave us,” said one. “What will we do without your guidance?” asked another.

The Buddha, with compassion in his eyes, reminded them, “I have always taught that death is a part of life, an experience not to be feared. Now, let’s set out on our journey.”

After many days of travel, they reached a serene village. “We should rest here,” suggested one of the followers.

The Buddha, feeling the weight of his years, decided to rest between two beautiful trees. His followers, worried and anxious, gathered around him.

“He can’t leave us,” they whispered among themselves, struggling with their sadness.

But another follower, finding strength in the Buddha’s teachings, reassured them, “Do not worry. The teachings of the Buddha will always be with us, guiding us.”

The Buddha, overhearing their conversation, spoke softly, “Remember, craving and desire are the root of all unhappiness. Everything in this world changes, so do not become too attached to anything. Focus your mind, live with kindness, and you will find true happiness.”

With those final words, the Buddha closed his eyes, and as the full moon cast a gentle glow over the earth, he passed away peacefully.

From that day on, every full moon, the followers of the Buddha would come together, remembering his teachings and chanting them aloud. They celebrated his life and the endless wisdom he shared, ensuring his teachings of love and peace would live on forever in the hearts of those who listened.
