The Swallow and the Serpent

The Swallow and the Serpent

Once upon a time, in a peaceful meadow filled with colorful flowers and tall, swaying grasses, there lived a small Swallow named Sammy. Sammy was a friendly little bird with bright blue feathers and a cheerful song that made everyone smile. He loved flying high in the sky and playing with his friends in the warm sunshine.

One day, while Sammy was searching for some tasty insects to eat, he noticed something unusual near a big oak tree. There, coiled up on a sunlit rock, was a Serpent. The Serpent was long and shiny, with scales that glistened like jewels in the sunlight. But Sammy noticed something else—the Serpent looked sad.

Curious and kind-hearted, Sammy flew down to the Serpent and asked, “Hello, Serpent. Why do you look so sad?”

The Serpent sighed and replied, “I am sad because no one wants to be my friend. Everyone is afraid of me because I am a snake. But I am lonely, and all I want is a friend.”

Sammy felt sorry for the Serpent. “I can be your friend,” he chirped. “It doesn’t matter that you’re a snake. We can still be friends.”

The Serpent smiled, grateful for Sammy’s kindness. “Thank you, Sammy,” the Serpent said. “You are very kind. But you must be careful, for not everyone is as friendly as you.”

Sammy nodded, understanding the Serpent’s warning. “I will be careful, but I believe that everyone deserves a chance.”

Days passed, and Sammy and the Serpent became good friends. They would often meet near the oak tree, where Sammy would sing cheerful songs, and the Serpent would listen with a happy heart. The meadow animals were surprised to see this unusual friendship, but they began to accept it because Sammy was so kind, and the Serpent never caused any harm.

But one day, a group of mischievous crows flew into the meadow. They were noisy and rude, always looking for trouble. When they saw Sammy and the Serpent together, they started to laugh and mock them.

“Look at the silly bird, being friends with a snake!” the crows cawed. “Don’t you know that snakes can’t be trusted?”

Sammy puffed out his chest and replied bravely, “My friend the Serpent is kind and has never hurt anyone. It’s not fair to judge someone just because they’re different.”

The crows weren’t convinced and kept teasing them. But the Serpent, who had been silent, suddenly lifted its head and hissed loudly. The crows, startled by the Serpent’s fierce hiss, flew away in fright, squawking in fear.

Sammy looked at the Serpent with surprise. “Thank you, Serpent. You saved me from those crows!”

The Serpent nodded and said, “True friends protect each other. You showed me kindness when others didn’t, and I will always be there to protect you, Sammy.”

From that day on, Sammy and the Serpent’s friendship grew even stronger. The other animals in the meadow began to see that the Serpent wasn’t scary at all. They realized that, like Sammy, they too could be friends with someone different from themselves.

And so, the meadow became a place of peace and harmony, where all the animals lived together happily, no matter their differences. Sammy continued to sing his cheerful songs, and the Serpent, no longer lonely, basked in the warmth of friendship.
