The Rivers and the Sea
Once upon a time, in a land of mountains and valleys, rivers flowed through the earth, twisting and turning on their way to the great blue sea. Each river sparkled in the sunlight, carrying water from the land to join the vast ocean.
One day, the rivers began to grumble. “Why do we have to give all our water to the sea?” said River Ripple, a young and lively stream. “It never seems to get full, no matter how much we send!”
River Twist, who was older and more winding, agreed. “It’s true! We work so hard, and yet the sea is always taking. It doesn’t seem fair.”
The rivers decided to visit the sea and demand an answer. They traveled together, their waters flowing as one, until they reached the wide, endless shore. There, the sea welcomed them with gentle waves and a friendly voice.
“Welcome, rivers,” said the sea. “What brings you all this way?”
River Ripple stepped forward. “We want to know why you take all our water and never seem satisfied. No matter how much we give, you always want more.”
The sea chuckled softly. “Ah, my dear rivers, I see why you’re upset. But let me show you something.”
The sea sent a salty breeze over the rivers, carrying the smell of ocean air and a sense of mystery. “Look at the clouds above you,” said the sea. “Do you see how they’re full of water?”
The rivers looked up and saw the fluffy white clouds drifting in the sky. “Yes, we see them,” said River Twist. “But what do they have to do with us?”
The sea explained, “The water I hold isn’t just for me. The sun warms me, and I send water up into the air to form those clouds. Then the clouds carry rain back to the mountains, where your journeys begin. Everything I take, I return.”
River Ripple gasped. “You mean we wouldn’t exist without you?”
“Exactly,” said the sea. “We’re part of a great cycle. You give to me, I give to the clouds, and the clouds give back to you. None of us could survive without the others.”
The rivers flowed back home, feeling wiser and calmer. From then on, they worked joyfully, knowing they were part of something much bigger than themselves.
Moral:
We’re all connected, and what we give often comes back to us in ways we don’t see.
