The Fox and the Cockerel

Once upon a time, in a bright and sunny farmyard, there lived a happy cockerel and four playful hens. They loved to peck around in the sun, chatting and laughing together. The cockerel, who was very brave, watched over them like a superhero.

As the sun set and painted the sky with pretty colors, the hens grew sleepy. They yawned and stretched their wings, ready for bed. “Cockerel, will you keep us safe tonight?” they asked. “Of course,” replied the cockerel, puffing up his chest. “I’ll watch out for any sneaky foxes.”

Meanwhile, in a nearby den, a family of foxes was feeling very hungry. “I’m so hungry I could eat a whole chicken!” said one little fox. Their daddy fox, who thought he was very clever, had a sneaky plan. “Stay here,” he said. “I’ll bring back a tasty chicken dinner.”

The daddy fox crept to the farmyard, where the cockerel was keeping watch from a tall tree. “Hello, Cockerel!” he called with a sly grin. “I have great news! All the animals are friends now, so you don’t need to watch out for us foxes anymore.”

The cockerel, who was very smart, didn’t believe the fox. “That sounds nice, but I think I’ll stay up here just to be safe,” he said. Then he had a clever idea. “Listen! I hear dogs coming to join our new friendship party!”

As soon as the fox heard about the dogs, he ran away as fast as his legs could carry him. He didn’t stop to look back, not even once. The cockerel chuckled to himself. “That sneaky fox won’t bother us tonight,” he said.

The hens woke up and clapped their wings. “Hooray for our clever cockerel!” they cheered. Feeling safe and snug, they all snuggled down for a cozy night’s sleep.

The daddy fox returned to his den without any chicken dinner, and the little foxes had to go to bed with rumbly tummies. “Next time, we’ll think of a better plan,” he said.

And so, the farmyard was peaceful once again, thanks to the clever cockerel who knew not to believe the sneaky fox. The animals learned that sometimes, you have to be smart to stay safe.
