The Story of Old Mother Hubbard

Written by:

n a cozy little cottage at the edge of a bustling village lived Old Mother Hubbard and her cheerful dog. Their home was filled with laughter and barks, but one day, something unusual happened.

Old Mother Hubbard realized her pantry was bare. Concerned for her hungry dog, she hummed a little tune, “Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard, to fetch her poor dog a bone. But when she got there, the cupboard was bare, and so the poor dog had none.”

The dog, with ears perked and eyes wide, wagged his tail expectantly. But seeing Mother Hubbard’s concerned face, his tail slowed, and he let out a soft whine. “Woof?” he seemed to ask, “Where’s my bone?”

“Oh, dear Dog,” Mother Hubbard sighed, “I’m afraid we’ve run out. But don’t you worry, I’ll think of something.”

Just then, the Cupboard, an old yet kindly piece of furniture, creaked open. “What’s the matter, Old Mother Hubbard?” it asked, noticing the gloom in the air.

Mother Hubbard shook her head, “Oh, Cupboard, you’re empty. I have nothing to feed the poor Dog.”

“That won’t do at all,” replied the Cupboard, feeling rather sorry about its emptiness.

As if by magic, help arrived at the cottage door. The Baker, carrying a basket filled with the aroma of fresh bread, pies, and cakes, stepped in. “Hello, Old Mother Hubbard. I heard about your plight and brought some supplies,” he announced, placing his basket on the table.

No sooner had the Baker left than the Butcher appeared, his arms laden with meats, hams, and sausages. “I’ve also come to help,” he said, adding his goods to the bounty now spread across the table.

Old Mother Hubbard’s eyes sparkled with joy. “Oh, Baker and Butcher, you’re both lifesavers!” she exclaimed. Together, they filled the Cupboard, which beamed with pride at being so full and useful.

The dog, watching all this unfold, could hardly contain his excitement. As Mother Hubbard prepared a special meal for him, he danced around, his tail wagging like never before.

With the cupboard now brimming with delicious foods, Mother Hubbard sang a new tune, “Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard, to give the poor dog a bone. But when she got there, the cupboard was full, and so the poor dog had lots.”

The little cottage was filled with joy once more. The dog, happily munching on his meal, the Cupboard full and content, and Mother Hubbard grateful for the kindness of friends. And so, the story of Old Mother Hubbard turned from one of worry to a tale of community, kindness, and a cupboard full of surprises, teaching everyone the power of coming together to help a friend in need.
